Day one in Fashion Design

We've specialised into our diciplines now, so for the next four years I'll be studying for a BA in Fashion Design! Today was my first day, and so far so good. We were introduced to our new project which we will be working on for the next three weeks. Our project deals with pattern. The brief demands that we gather a large amount of primary research, developing these ideas through the process of mark-making and looking at these patterns distorted, manipulated or laid bare. We will then be translating these patterns into fabrics. Today was spent doing primary research on patterns in both the urban and natural surrounding environment. I took lots of photos of patterns I came across on my journey through Cork and Limerick city and many at home in between as well;

 Commencing in Rochestown;

 and moving on into Cork City;

Then it was on into Tesco for some naturally occurring patterns;

Then some photos I took on the bus home;

The screen of my phone, I had a brainwave here and decided to photograph patterns on the screen of the computer and the tv when the cables are pulled out (see later)

 The text on my bus ticket, blurred, so that the text was indistinguishable. Just a linear pattern resulting;

The walk home; the fact that it was night made some of these more interesting;

Some photographs of the tv and the computer screen. These were mostly unsuccessful on our tv at home so I tried it out on my tv in Limerick (see later). Apparently the older tvs are better for the choppy screen effect;

 Any excuse to go on Facebook. Joking. I took some photos of crowds/rows of people and blurred them to make patterns. This idea didn't really work out though;

A quick tug of the cable out from behind the tv and I was good to go. This worked out much better on the tv in Limerick. These photos are also very interesting to look at close up, they are nearly all made up of little black outlined rectangles of blue green and red. I'm going to go with this idea just as a starting point so I'll retreat to this again tonight;

We were given the morning to take some more photographs of patterns around Limerick City;

My previous trip to Tesco in Cork was extremely rushed so I popped in again;

And then a few final photos on the walk back to college, if I've manged to even hold your attention this long;

And that's a wrap.
